Canine and Equine Photoshoot Summer Style Guide

As Summer has only just started here in the UK it only felt right for my first blog post be a 'Summer Style Guide' to help you decide what to wear for your canine or equine Summer photoshoot! As we all know Summer in the UK can be extremely mixed so I have split this style guide into 'Cool and Cloudy Summer Days' and 'Hot and Sunny Summer Days.' So far this year it looks like we will be starting off the Summer with a lot of cool and cloudy days but I am hoping it improves soon!

Cool and Cloudy Summer Days

In the week leading up to your photoshoot I will keep a close eye on the weather forecast and if it looking bad we will rearrange free of charge. However, it is likely that some of Summer will be cool and cloudy and these can still make for some gorgeous pictures!

Country Style

Country style clothes are very popular whether you are having an equine or a canine photoshoot. On those cooler, cloudy days jeans are normally a go-to for my clients. A smart long sleeved shirt provides a bit of added warmth. If it is a particularly cool day a smart country jacket is the perfect accessory as it provides added warmth but can be taken off easily if the weather changes. A simple long sleeved dress is also a great option to still look Summery but without feeling the cold.

If you are having an equine photoshoot and would like some ridden photos then a long sleeved base layer or a show jacket is a great option so that you don't get cold. If you would like pictures in a dress or a skirt, for your own comfort, I recommend that you make sure it will be long enough to cover the saddle.

Ball

Summer is the perfect time of year for those fairytale style images in a long dress. It is also the time of year that proms happen so it is the perfect time to schedule a photoshoot to make the most of those beautiful prom dresses! A cold and cloudy Summer's day should not stop you from wearing the dress. If you think you will be cold then bring a jacket to put on between shots and for location changes so you can stay warm.

 Hot and Sunny Summer Days

These are the days that we all imagine when we think of a Summer photoshoot. They are also the perfect time for those gorgeous golden hour shots, at sunset, like the picture of Chloe and her mare Bonny below!

Country Style

Country style on a hot day is similar to what you might choose on a slightly cooler day. Jeans are still extremely popular especially when paired with a pair of smart country boots to fit the theme. On a hot day a short sleeved blouse in a muted or earthy colour always looks amazing. Also, in keeping with the country style is a lovely Summer dress paired with some smart country boots.

If you are having an equine photoshoot and would like some ridden photos then a people tend to either go for photos in traditional riding wear, such as jodhpurs and a short sleeves base layer. Or you might choose to stay with the "country style" look and wear jeans or a dress with either country or riding boots. If you would like ridden pictures in a dress or a skirt, for your own comfort, I recommend that you make sure it will be long enough to cover the saddle.

Ball

On a hot Summers day the lighting is always gorgeous for those fairytale style pictures in a beautiful dress. You will also not have to worry about bringing a jacket to keep you warm in between shots!

Top Tips

  • There are always plenty of short breaks scheduled into a photoshoot whether you book a mini of a full photoshoot. This allows both you and your horse a minute to relax and have some down time. This is also the perfect time for an outfit change, so bring options!

  • Try to plan your outfits before and think about the location of your photoshoot. Try not to pick any colours that will clash with your surroundings.

  • Try to avoid big, bold patterns or logos as these can create a distraction in your images. It is always the first thing that your eye is drawn to.

  • If you are struggling to choose an outfit bring a variety of outfits along to your photoshoot and we can go through them together to pick the ones that will work best.
